ECCC DOCTRINAL STATEMENT
......................................................................................................................
The following Doctrinal Statement sets forth the theological position of this school. This statement provides a basis for doctrinal agreement and unity. The Bible itself is the sole and final source of all we believe. This statement of doctrine is to serve as an outline to define our general interpretation of Scripture. It is a framework which we conclude consistent with the whole of scripture.
Biblical Foundations Statement
Eastern Carolina Christian College & Seminary has a long history of serving the needs of Christians in a rural, semi-urban setting. Our biblical position is set forth as follows:
1.1.1 The Historicity of the Bible: We believe the full historicity and perspicuity of the biblical record, including the conception, the virgin birth, etc. as revealed in the Holy Scriptures; being the verbally and plenary the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and without error in its original documents. Furthermore, they the absolute revelation and ultimate expression of God's will for the salvation of humanity, being the divine and final authority for all Christian faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21).
1.1.2 The Trinitarian nature of God: We believe in the One True and Living God, eternally existent in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and these three are of one essence, equal in divine perfection and execute distinct, but harmonious offices in the work of creation and redemption (John: 1-2; 15:2).
1.1.3 The Father: The first person of the Divine Trinity. As Creator and Sovereign Owner, we believe in the doctrines of his immanence within the created universe and His transcendence of it (Gen. 1:1; Matthew 6:9; John 1:1).
1.1.4 Jesus Christ: We believe in the deity and humanity of Jesus Christ, the only- begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary. We also believe in His sinless life, His death on the cross, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His personal return in dominion, power and glory as righteous Judge and Ruler.(John 3:16; Matthew 1:18-23; Acts 1:9-11; I Peter 3:22; John 5:25-30).
1.1.5 The Holy Spirit: We believe the Holy Spirit to be the third person of the Holy Trinity and that He is neither made, created, nor begotten, but one and the same essence, majesty and glory with the Father and the Son. As Comforter sent by both the Father and the Son, He convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He regenerates, seals, teaches, intercedes, indwells and equips the believer to live in victory over the power of sin, death and the grave (St. John 14:26; 16:7-11; Romans 8:26-27).
1.1.6 Man: We believe that man was created by God in his image and likeness. Through the disobedience of one man, Adam, all of humanity is under the condemnation of eternal damnation and is utterly hopeless to remedy [his] sinful condition apart from the grace of a holy and merciful God (Genesis 1:26; Romans 3:25; Ephesians 2:12; I Corinthians 15:22).
1.1.7 Creation: We believe in the biblical doctrine of Creation as recorded in the Book of Genesis (Genesis 1:1-2). It is a historical and literal event, meaning the universe and all that's in it was created by God and apart from pre-existing materials and without an evolutionary process.
1.1.8 The Way of Salvation: Salvation is a gift from God and is received by grace through the personal faith in the work of Jesus Christ. (John 3:18; Ephesians 1:7; 2:8-9; Gal. 2:16; I John 1:9; 10:9-11).
1.1.9 Satan: We believe that God created Satan as a perfect angelic being who is now defeated in a failed pursuit to overthrow the throne of God. His ultimate defeat and final destination is the lake of fire and brimstone forever (Genesis 1:1-19; Ephesians 6:13-17; I Peter 5:8; Revelation 20:10).
1.1.10 The Second Coming of Christ: 1.1.10 The Second Coming of Christ: We believe in the substitutionary and redemptive sacrifice of Jesus Christ for the sin of humanity through his literal, physical death, burial, and resurrection, followed by his heavenly ascension and ultimately his earthly kingdom reign. (I Thessalonians 1:10; 4:5-11; 16-17; 5:9; Titus 2:13; I Corinthians 3:11-15; 15:51-53; II Corinthians 5:10; I Thessalonians 4:5-11).
1.1.11: Heaven: We believe in the biblical teaching of the reality of heaven in all its senses. It is the reward of the righteous saints who accepted the benefits of Christ's plan of salvation and redemption.
1.1.12 Hell: We believe in the biblical doctrine of everlasting punishment according to the scriptures. According to Rev. 20:13, death and hell were cast into the lake of fire, being the second death of eternal punishment and reward of those who rejected the benefits of Christ's plan of salvation and redemption. (Matt. 8:12; 25:41-46; Rev. 9:1-2; 14:10-11; 21:18; Rom. 2:5 ;).
